Photos from our SELL OUT Hyper Japan needle felt workshop.
In November 2016 we introduced Kawaii crafting to the masses as part of the Hyper Japan Creative Studio workshop schedule.
For those not already in the loop, Hyper Japan is a large biannual London convention event that celebrates Japanese culture, food, media and entertainment.
Our workshop allowed the public to try their hand at the easy and adorable craft of needle felting.
Tickets sold out in 2hrs which was surprising and delightful.
Participants, including families and youngsters, had 1hr to complete their own Needle Felt friends. Everyone made a small felt character and turned it into a brooch, hair accessory, key ring or Christmas ornament. Simple to learn and quick to master, it’s easy to see why needle felting is such a hugely popular hobby in Japan. A quick internet search will turn up a wealth of tiny, fuzzy creations, from cute octopuses to fluffy foodstuffs.
Thanks go to my friend Nathalie Slim for running around with my camera whilst I was busy at the front. As if I needed a microphone! And massive thanks to the regular Otome Sewing Bee members that came and supported us.
The Hyper Japan staff were all super accommodating. Lovely gang of student volunteers too. Happy to report that straight away I have been invited back to teach more crafts for Hyper Japan 2017.
